A Segway is a two wheeled battery powered transportation device designed for one person. Each Segway uses high-tech gyroscopes and computers that automatically respond to your body’s movements keeping you balanced while “sensing” when it should speed up and slow down. You stand on a small platform between left and right wheels as you hold onto handlebars at a comfortable waist height. From a standing position, all movements are controlled by basically leaning slightly in the direction you want to travel. Not only is it smart and effective transportation, but more fun than you can imagine!
The only way you could even begin to fully appreciate the wonder of the Segway is to try it for yourself.
The Segway PT requires no special skills and virtually anyone can use one. All of our tours and activities include a thorough safety and gliding training session given by one of our qualified Segway instructors prior to departure.
Tours are only available for participants aged 12 or older. Participants under 18 years of age must have written permission from a parent, guardian or supervising adult. Participants must be within the weight range of 45Kgs (7 stone) to 115Kgs (18.5 stone).
If you are too heavy then the motors might not be powerful enough to keep you upright on a steep hill. If you are too light, you might not be able to brake effectively.
Yes all participants must sign a waiver before commencing tours. Participants under 18 years of age must have the waiver signed by a supervising adult.
Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the tour so that we can get you booked in and start the tour on time. Late arrival may result in missing the introduction and training in which case you will not be permitted to take part. No refunds or rescheduling will be available for people who arrive too late to take part.
Tours take place rain or shine. We have rain ponchos available for sale but we do recommend that you bring appropriate rain gear in case the weather isn’t cooperative. In the unlikely event that the weather is so bad that the tour has to be cancelled a full refund will be issued.
Please wear comfortable clothing that is appropriate for the weather. Tours take place outside and in almost all weather conditions. Even if it is only mildly cold, we recommend you bring along a coat and gloves to keep you warm.
We recommend you wear clothing that will cover your legs and arms. Maxi dresses/skirts are not a good idea if they restrict your movement or obscure your view of the Segway’s platform.
Depending on the weather the ground conditions may be muddy or wet and you may get some residue on your clothing. Also, if you follow the person in front too closely – you may inadvertently catch some debris from their tyres.
You may need to step off the machine in the woods so your footwear may also get a little bit muddy.
Helmets which we provide are mandatory for all of our Segway tours. We also have elbow and knee protectors available at no extra charge if you feel you need extra protection.
At present all tours are conducted in English only.
Riders must have the ability to make motions such as climbing and descending stairs without assistance and complete use of their left hand. Tours are not appropriate for people who may find it difficult to stand for extended periods of time.
Tour tickets are non-refundable however where possible we will endeavour to reschedule your tour if you cannot make your original booking. Rescheduling is at our discretion and is subject to availability. Please see our Terms and Conditions and Cancellation Policy for full details
